The History of Spicewood | |||||||||||||||
It is believed that Spicewood was named for the Spicewood Timber that grows nearby. In the late 1800’s there were several small towns in the area surrounding Spicewood. In 1899 a post office was opened in Spicewood and the residents of the nearby towns began using Spicewood as a hub of community activity. As these smaller towns began to decline over the years, Spicewood grew. In 1940’s the road that is now Highway 71 was built which gave the town additional business growth due to the increased traffic in the area. Today, Spicewood acts as a great base for people looking to enjoy the activities of Lake Buchanan in a significantly more tranquil area of the lake.
